Healthy Habits

The Assignment

The goal of this project is to prepare early childhood educators to design developmentally appropriate health instruction that teaches children healthy habits, while supporting families in reinforcing them at home.

What to Do

Choose a Topic

Examples: handwashing, dental care, daily exercise, sleep routines, healthy snacks.

Research Your Topic

  • Use the course textbook and at least one other reliable source.

  • Gather simple, age-appropriate facts to share with children.

Written Campaign Plan

2-3 Pages​

  • Introduction: State your topic and why it is important for children.

  • Learning Goals: List what you want children to know or be able to do after the campaign.

  • Classroom Activity: Describe one fun, age-appropriate way you will teach the topic
    (game, art, song, experiment).

  • Family Connection: Describe one way you will involve families
    (handout, take-home activity, conversation tips).

  • Cultural/Developmental Adaptations: Explain how you would adapt for children with different cultural backgrounds, developmental needs, or learning styles.

Create Campaign Materials

  • One Visual Element for the classroom
    (poster, slideshow, or digital flyer).

  • One Family Handout 
    (newsletter, tip sheet, or coloring page).

Present to the Class

5-7 minutes​

  • Share your topic, explain why it matters, and show how you would teach it.

  • Use your visual element during the presentation.

What to Include

  • Written campaign plan (2–3 pages)

  • Visual element

  • Family handout

  • Oral presentation (5–7 minutes)
